Travelocity will
be the primary technology provider for and a shareholder in the
travel website being developed by 11 airlines in the Asia/Pacific region.
The as-yet-unnamed exchange is expected to commence operations by mid
year.
Buzz
is to expand its services from London Stansted with a twice-daily flight
to Cologne from March 25. This is the UK-based budget airline’s fifth
new route for 2001, joining Poitiers and La Rochelle in France and Murcia
and Gerona in Spain. The KLM subsidiary also announced it is switching
from Berlin Tegel Airport to Schonefeld due to slot restraints at Tegel
and that it will reduce services on some of its business routes such as
Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf during July and August.
Emirates
has increased its weekly nonstop flights between Dubai and Zurich from
three to four.
Continental Airlines plans
to increase seat capacity to Hawaii by 31% with addition of five new
weekly flights between Houston and Honolulu May 2-Sept. 5. It also plans
to add a 282-seat DC-10 to its Newark-Honolulu route.
Cathay Pacific Airways
launched an online service allowing passengers to check in via the
Internet. The service initially is available for all Asia Miles and Marco
Polo Club members and their traveling companions.
LanPeru, after nearly two months of
being grounded, will resume domestic flights beginning Feb. 1, offering
service between Lima and Cuzco, Arequipa, and Juliaca. We expect some good
promo fares to stimulate business.
Air Canada will begin codesharing
today with Star Alliance partner Lufthansa on daily flights to and from
Russia. Lufthansa will carry the Air Canada designator on flights from
Frankfurt to Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Air Canada recently conducted a beta trial of
inflight Internet and e-mail services. The test was sponsored by Tenzing
Communications.
Impulse Airlines
has emerged as a third potential bidder for Australian Regional carrier
Hazelton Airlines as antitrust officials consider revised proposals from
Qantas and Ansett. Impulse indicated it will proceed with an offer
depending on the final outcome of the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission’s examination the two bids currently on the table. The
carrier, which entered the inter-city market in June, would like to
combine its regional fleet of 13 1900Ds with that of Hazelton in a merged
entity, which would be controlled by Impulse but retain the Hazelton
brand.
Impulse recently announced plans to strengthen
its east coast jet services with addition of three more 717-200s,
increasing its fleet to eight.
Virgin Express has signed a
distribution deal with Sabre, making it the second low-fare airline to
sign with that CRS. Traditionally Virgin Express has been a direct-sell
carrier, but its new distribution strategy has prompted it to re-evaluate
the value of CRS distribution to travel agents.
British Midland, as
it gears up for launch of transatlantic service this spring, has named
Rohan Alce to the new position of VP-Americas based in Chicago. He will be
responsible for airport services, sales and marketing. Alce joined BMA in
1999 from Virgin Atlantic.
Gol Airlines,
a Brazilian low-fare new entrant, took to the skies Monday, operating a
fleet of six 737-700s among seven domestic destinations. Four aircraft are
leased from Boeing Capital Corp. and two from GE Capital Aviation
Services. Gol will take delivery of four more leased 737s from May through
Nov. The name is Portuguese for "goal," a wise choice in
soccer-happy Brazil.

Francisco beginning April 1.

Baltimore via Miami or New York Jan. 24 under a codeshare agreement with
American Airlines. LanChile also will begin offering daily nonstop service
between Miami and Ecuador this month.

expand its scheduled budget operation Basiq Air with a daily flight from
Rotterdam to Nice and Barcelona from April 12. Transavia, an 80%
subsidiary of KLM, began operating Basiq Air Dec. 18 with twice-daily
flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to Nice and Barcelona and said, "the
number of bookings and load factor are promising."
Ryanair is
to set up a new hub in continental Europe later this year. An announcement
is expected by mid-Feb. According to Sinead Finn, Ryanair’s sales
director for Italy, the airline is in talks with two airports on the
continent. Although Italy is Ryanair’s biggest European destination--one
in seven of its passengers traveled to Italy last year--an Italian airport
is not among the short-listed candidates. That leaves Frankfurt, Stockholm
and Brussels as the most likely possibilities. Finn said talks will
continue with airport authorities in Brescia in northern Italy, where
Ryanair is considering putting a second continental crew base. For the
first hub, however, it makes more sense to choose an airport closer to the
center of the mainland, Finn added.
Ryanair DEC 4 gained
a victory over British Airways when the High Court in London Tuesday
dismissed BA’s case in which it charged the Irish budget airline with
malicious falsehood and trademark infringement relating to a media
campaign in which Ryanair claimed BA fares on competing routes were up to
five times higher. The court ruled that the substance of the ads was true
and amounted to honest comparative advertising.

summer as planned after TUI Belgium shareholder Jetair signed an agreement
with Sabena leisure subsidiary Sobelair.
Sabena Dec
4 decided Tuesday to suspend its
weekly direct flights to Bujumbura, Burundi, until further notice while
awaiting results of an investigation into an incident Monday in which a
Sabena aircraft was hit by machinegun fire just before landing at
Bujumbura. The A330-200 was flying from Brussels to Bujumbura and Nairobi
and carried 158 passengers and a crew of 12. A passenger and a steward
were injured slightly during the incident.
British Regional Airlines Group Dec

unidentified bidder. The group, owner of British Regional Airlines and
Manx Airlines, was floated in June 1998. Its major shareholder is Chairman
Michael Bishop, who separately is chairman and majority shareholder of
British Midland.
LIAT, Air Caraibes and Winair
Dec 4 teamed
up to form a marketing partnership, Carib Sky Alliance. The three airlines
are combining their networks linking some 46 destinations in the Caribbean
region and will offer one ticket and through check-in and baggage service.
They will introduce new nonstop services and develop hub-and-spoke
operations at St. Maarten, Antigua, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia and
Barbados.

joining the Delta/Air France-led SkyTeam alliance, will join Delta’s
SkyMiles partnership program along with several other airlines beginning

declining financial position for its action.

had flooded the market with excess capacity that had caused the route to
become unprofitable
Malaysia Airlines
Nov 1 and KLM are expanding their codeshare agreement on 11
weekly flights between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur to include seven beyond
points in Scandinavia and seven in Australia and New Zealand.
China Southern
Nov 1 launched thrice-weekly service between Guangzhou and Singapore
over Hong Kong and to Kuala Lumpur via Bangkok Oct. 29 using 757s.
www.hotwire.com
Nov 1 The airline-backed
travel website aiming to challenge Priceline.com for the deep-discount
discretionary travel market, launched Oct. 24. Unlike Priceline's
"name your price" system that requires customers to bid a fare
and then purchase it if it is accepted by a participating airline, Hotwire
users will propose an itinerary and receive a time-limited fare offer that
they may accept or reject.
Air China and Lufthansa,Oct 20
as expected, agreed to
code-share on passenger services between China and Germany; however, LH Chairman Juergen Weber said the move is not a "prelude" to Air China joining the Star Alliance. The airlines already codeshare on cargo services.
Ansett InternationalOct 20 introduced 767-300 service between Melbourne and Hong Kong in the first major expansion of its limited Asian network in three years. The launch of four weekly flights in Nov. is the initial phase in a strategy by 49% owner Air New Zealand to rebuild AI and signals renewed industry confidence in the Asian market. ANZ Executive Chairman Selwyn Cushing said AI will begin flying to the US from the start of 2001, probably using 747-400s leased from Singapore Airlines.
Canada's Competition Bureau Oct 20.on Oct. 12 ordered Air Canada to "cease and desist" from offering discount fares on five routes in eastern Canada while it determines whether the fares are predatory. The temporary order expires Oct. 31 but may be extended; it was issued following a complaint by Halifax-based CanJet that Air Canada was trying to drive it from markets it entered Sept. 5. The bureau declined to restrict AC on two other routes where CanJet had alleged predation.
Continental Airlines and Northwest AirlinesOct 20 announced the availability of interline e-ticketing between the carriers last week. They said the technology also "allows them to accept e-ticketed customers traveling on changed itineraries involving the other carrier without the need for conversion to a paper ticket."
Separately, CO said it will inaugurate daily service between Newark and London Stansted from next May 1 subject to government approval. Service will be operated with 757s.
you can fly cheaper than on any airline with the ride
guide.
Delta Air LinesOct 20 will add 10 737-200s to the fleet of its low-fare Delta Express operation, expanding it to 52 aircraft by Sept. 2001. Delta Express will add service between Newark and Fort Myers from Feb. 15 and between Hartford/Springfield and Tampa from next March, with additional services to be announced soon. Overall daily departures will rise from 178 flights today to 190 flights by March.
Delta said it will record a noncash charge of $154 million, net of tax, for the quarter ended Sept. 30 when it reports results this week. The charge is "primarily due to a change in accounting for premiums paid on fuel hedge contracts ($41 million), the decline in fair value of certain equity instruments ($100 million) and the restructuring of its Portland, Ore., operation ($13 million).
Delta expects to launch nonstop service between Atlanta and Rio de Janeiro Dec. 15 following the receipt of tentative approval from DOT to operate the service.

10. It will operate the flights with a 767-200. Subject to government approval, this will
be the carrier's ninth European destination.
Orbitz, 18/Sep
the airline-owned travel website, will not launch fully until midsummer 2001 after
extensive beta testing that begins this month. "By allowing a huge number of beta
testers to experience Orbitz and by making adjustments based on their valuable feedback,
we will make sure our site exceeds customer expectations," said Chairman, President
and CEO Jeffrey Katz.
British Midland 18/Sep
confirmed it will launch service from Manchester to Washington Dulles and Chicago
O'Hare airports next spring. The daily roundtrip to Washington will begin April 30 and
will be the first nonstop between the cities. Manchester-Chicago will start May 21. Both
services will be operated on a codeshare basis with United Airlines, for which BMA
received regulatory approval in July.
BMA ordered four Rolls-Royce Trent-powered
A330-200s earlier this year. Chairman Michael Bishop hopes the flights from Manchester
will pave the way for the airline to begin services to the US from London Heathrow. The
next round of US-UK bilateral talks is due to take place later this month. BMA has been
granted route licenses by the UK CAA for operations from Heathrow to New York, Washington,
Miami and Boston.

launch the first commercial flight from Brisbane to Sydney, which took off at 10.00am
local time - 25 minutes later than scheduled.
Godfrey said the airline would bring two new aircraft into operation by the end of the
year and hire new staff to service other destinations.
Beattie said Virgin Blue would give another boost to the Queensland tourism industry and
he believes the airline would in the future expand its services to regional areas.
British Midland to Barcelona. 27 Aug
B.M. will take on flag carriers British Airways and Iberia when it launches 3
daily non stop flights between London Heathrow and Barcelona on November the 1st
2000. With the London area airports serving BCN (Barcelona) with Easy Jet from Luton, GO
from Stanstead, Virgin Express, and Buzz, competition will hot up and econ fares should
drop or remain at their low level for a lot longer. British Midland expects econ fare of
GBP £97 round trip. Expect introductory offers.
AIR WALES 27 Aug

both services
Greek Sun God Helios "Smiling" 27

airline has bolstered its three times a week service to cope with soaring demand.
Virgin Blue Latest 27 Aug.
Australia's Civil Aviation Authority expects to give Sir Richard Branson's
Virgin Blue regulatory approval to start service by the first week of September "if
things go according to plan," a CASA spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires. Virgin Blue
declined to give a specific date for the launch. The carrier originally targeted Aug. 3 to
start services between Brisbane and Sydney
21 Aug 00, Eleven airlines, including Japan
Airlines and All Nippon, have joined together with Travelocity.com to develop a travel
website to serve the Japanese market. Other shareholders include Northwest, United, Air
New Zealand, Ansett Australia, Asiana, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Malaysia Airlines,
Qantas, Royal Brunei and Singapore Airlines. With the exception of the two US carriers,
the members also are forming an online travel exchange to serve the Asia/Pacific region
outside Japan. ANA and JAL said their participation "is in line with the intention to
establish future cooperation between the Japan-based company and the online travel
exchange for the region."
17 July NATIONAL JET ITALIA
began operation on July 11. The new airline, established in cooperation with
Australia's National Jet Systems, operates as a British Airways franchise
using a pair of BAe 146-300s on British Airways franchise flights from Rome under a
British World Airlines AoC. Initial services employ two former Uni Air BAe
146-300s on four daily flights to Palermo, in Sicily. Catania, also in Sicily, will be
added later in the summer. Services to both cities will gradually be built up to eight a
day. NJI's 146s will be configured in a two-class configuration, with 12 Club Europe
(business class) and 82 Euro Traveller (economy class) seats and painted in full British
Airways livery. Alitalia have had a stranglehold on routes and prices in this region for a
very long time, the "family" who oil business in this little corner of
Italy will be very upset with this competition, and we fully expect a little price war

AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS: A botched privatisation and alleged mismanagement by Spain's
Iberia are behind the crippling debt that threatens to bankrupt the airline in four weeks
according to Argentine President Fernando de la Rua.
Former President Carlos Menem privatised the South American airline in 1991 when
Spain's flag carrier Iberia took the main stake in the company. The state-owned Spanish
carrier then transferred much of its stake to Spain's state holding company, SEPI, which
remains the largest shareholder. Early this
year SEPI took over the day-to-day running of Aerolineas from American Airlines parent
company , which owns 8.5%. http://www.aerolineas.com.ar

regional start up carrier, created by Spanair , will operate flights linking the Islands
of Palma in Majorca, Ibiza, and Menorca with the mainland. Again expect bargain
promo fares.
BUZZ SUMMER FREQUENCIES 1 July 00
Buzz is altering some of it's Stanstead frequencies between July 5 and Aug 13. The
move follows a review of market conditions the changes will allow the KLM owned airline to
maximise it's fleet. During the peak summer period, Jerez will have Wed. and Sat flights

HEL Helsinki only once a day on Wed and to Lyon once a day for the same period.

one way flights will be on offer that will be chaper than buying a return and throwing
away the return protion.

AUSTRALIA: The mini air war down under is hotting up with Impulse Airlines beginning
operations on 5 June challenging the domestic domination of (NZ owned) Ansett Australia
and Qantas. On 10 July Virgin Blue starts up,
an interesting experiment from two points of view.
The airline is 100% owned by overseas interests. Can Sir Richard Branson operate a budget
carrier, this time with a completely clean slate? Preliminery
advertising is under way and the airline has already made an impact. Impulse has three Boeing 717s operating seven
daily Sydney-Melbourne return flights, the aircraft themselves very quiet with lots of
passenger appeal. However the carrier
has bypassed the travel trade with direct bookings, a factor that has not gone down well
with establishment. The Qantas and Ansett Australia
have responded by matching Impulse lead in fare of approximately £50 one
way.always expect some cheap promotional faresfor the launch month
BRITISH AIRWAYS ITALIA is to launch regional services in Italy on 11 July. BA Franchise National Jets Italia will initially

GILL
AIRWAYS, the Newcastle airline which is currently operating under administration,
has recorded its best sales figures for the year, with record passengers on its Air France
franchise to Paris and also on its Norwich-Aberdeen route.
The airline cites steadily growing customer confidence and a major
improvement in punctuality and reliability across the network. These improvements have largely been made possible
by Gill Airways decision to withdraw from customer peripheral activities and to
concentrate on its core business. http://www.gill-airways.com
HIGHLAND AIRWAYS, the Inverness based charter and aviation
management company, has acquired a 19 passenger BAe
Jetstream 31 with delivery in early July.
Highland also operates a pair of nine passenger Cessna 406, used in a
variety of air taxi operations.

Dirty tricks by major Airlines.....Air
France and British Airways.
What are they up to,well they have some very
competitive prices, reason being is that they are subsidised by the European union to the
tune of
over a Billion $(US).
If you should happen to be terminating or originating a flight in
France
and contemplating using Air France, think again, tickets sold in
France
are 2 to 3 times more expensive than for the same ticket bought
outside
France, even if that ticket includes an additional flight into the
Paris HUB.
We're not exactly clear why they have such outrageous pricing, but there are good deals
to be had for tickets all over the place as long as you buy and originate outside France.
We spoke to one traveller who was on her way to Johannesburg from Paris,
she bought a round trip from Paris to Brussels, and a round trip from Brussels to
Johannesburg (via) Paris for half the price of a French bought Paris--Jo-burg.
Basically don't buy a ticket on the national carrier of the country you
are in. Buy your ticket from a rival national carrier, then they will offer you a better
price to "steal you", from your local carrier. This will involve an additional
flight to their main hub of operation, but will ultimately work out significantly cheaper.
Example, The official British Airways Round Trip economy from London to
Sydney, for the same date Dec.1999, a passenger buying in London would pay £1,789. a
passenger buying in Amsterdam again on BA with the additional flight into London would
only pay £789. therefore saving 127%.
Most people don't investigate this and would not want to make another
connection, so the airlines can hold travellers to ransom.. You have been warned.
Adventurair
20 November 1999 Our new flight data base is not as full as it should be
because Both Allan And Mike owners of the Adventurair have moved to new Airlines and with
the intensity of the training program have not had a lot of time to devote to the

What we're up to,
Well great inroads are being made with our flight sourcing, this wasn't our original
intention to do too much of this, as you already have all you need to source your own
flights, but be that as it may were doing some digging, most of the flights you will see
on the departure boards are one way as we want to make available to you all those empty
seats we have told you about,
it's early days yet but you can already see by what is currently on the departure board,
what were coming up with, and what is out there. © Adventurair 1999
