Aircraft is a Lear Jet 35a and can carry eight passengers.

I was based out at St. Maarten in the Dutch Antilles Eastern Caribbean, in 1997. Through living there. and having flown most of the ex-pat population around the Islands at some time or other, I knew a lot of people in the tourist business, from the Hotels to the Marinas.

A large privately owned cruiser came in. Two of the crew, were a couple of Australian girls, Michelle and Colette, they were working their way around the world. They had been on the cruiser, as crew, for 3 months, fun as it was, they both wanted a change, and wanted to get off and head North to the states soon.

$570 each, on regular airlines, one way to Miami leaving within the week was a little extortionate, and could I help? You bet, I would keep my ear to the ground and get them out of there!

Budget price luxury air travel - with a Ride Guide

Three days later an Executive jet came in from Florida, and dropped off a wealthy family. This jet was then going to return to Florida, completely empty, (with jet Charters/Air Taxi like this the customer pays for the aircraft in both directions approx. US$6000). I bartered a price of US $200 for the two of them. I asked the pilot to delay his departure by half an hour so the girls could get their stuff together, and get themselves to the airport, and eventually they were on their way.

RESULT

Two travellers flew on an 8 seat executive business Jet (in VIP style) from St. Maarten to Miami, for $100 each, one way. Beat that!!!

The Pilot made $150 pocket money, fifty of which I think he gave the Co-pilot.

I made $50 as their rep., for keeping a close eye on the movements in and out of my local airport for them.
